Our History

Mission: To educate and train the future stewards of Puget Sound

Pacific
Marine Research inspires Seattle area 3rd-12th grade students to respect, appreciate, & protect Puget Sound by teaching environmental awareness and stewardship through full day experiential marine science research field trips aboard our floating classroom. We teach scientific investigation, and instill observation, curiosity, and exploration to motivate the future guardians of Puget Sound to care about our environment, our marine life, and the watershed in which we all live.

The organization was founded in 1984 andhas educated 125,000 students through our flagship program, Marine Science Afloat, which provides students with a hands-on marine science experience on our floating classroom, the Spirit of 76.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the organization relies on donations, volunteers and our committed Board of Directors to ensure it reaches the program goal of teaching the principals of environmental awareness and stewardship.
